off to Chengdu

This morning I’ll be going to Chengdu in Sichuan province located in central of China. This morning journey would be my first domestic trip here in China. The office is sending me there to attend a four –day workshop sponsored by the client. By plane its 3 hours away and with such travel time it’s like going back to my country. I already packed my things which I am not very good at, and hope that would suffice for several days. I will miss Shanghai.
Anyway, looking forward to not get bored on the meetings, to see panda, to say hi to Chairman Mao and to take a lot of pictures of this Chinese city.
To bring or not to bring my pc is still a debate but I decided to take metro line 1 and 2 and maglev to get fast to Pudong airport.

DEAR NANG

(today, i will be a romeo to my Valentine, Nang.)

Dear Nang,

I don’t know what species of flowers my wonderful friends bought on my behalf to send you but I hope they are roses and you liked them at first sight and smelt their scent and close your eyes and was happy to see me in your thought. I may not know how many stems you are holding now or the colors of its soft petals but I am certain that this bouquet envelops my love that misses everything in you and that is you. My love and adoration of you is beyond borders. The southern sea of China is futile to stop me to say how much I am in love with and happy being with you.
Happy happy Valentines my dear baby Nang. I love you always and forever.

E’er,

Tops

PS.

So to make this Valentine very special and let me ask question and you answer them with all honesty.
JOANNA MARIE HAM DUPA, WILL YOU MARRY ME???

(There are many ways to know your answer but I prefer everything on the record. Please say things on the comment bar. thnx!)

stealing beux and non beux

This week I bought myself Cannon EOS 400d so I can pursue my dream to freeze people, places and events in canvas. This is the very first camera that I bought in my entire life and paid 5800rmb for it. My liking to photography as an art seemed to start a decade ago that every time I got hold of a camera I see to it that I would produce a best shot with best angle.
The wanting to have the instrument grew more when I traveled to amazing places possess with scenes and smiles I only see on books and films. I felt incomplete and embarrass when I get to such places only to preserve those spots, those beautiful faces and cultures in the corner of your memories with limited words to describe them. I went to romantic city called Paris with 36 film shots and climbed the ancient mountains of the north saying cheese at my friend’s camera. I set foot to the mystic islands of Batanes and stored the solitude of landscapes in my mind with few shots for Friendster utilization from the office owned camera.
Pity that my technological advancement in photography was having a Sony Ericsson phone with built in cam. But I have to commend them for being with me they preserved some of the images and people my mind is limited to describe.
Today and to the days that will come, I will embark myself to learn this art. I wish my instrument could learn each other well to capture both the beautiful and not, the good and the bad, the balance and the asymmetrical, and the sacred and the evil.

how to celebrate the Chinese year of the rat, Shanghai style.

It’s 18:17 and the eve of Chinese New Year. I am in my apartment in Changle Road and I heard firecrackers blasting from a distant yet not like that loud as in Manila or in any part of the Philippines. This is China and they invented the fireworks here a long time ago and I found it ironic to hear some dead moment and long silence in between boom and bang. Perhaps it’s too early for them to show the lights flying on the night sky. So I will wait. My neighbor in this medium rise dwelling seems to be quite perhaps they were just stuck inside to avoid the freezing outdoor climate. But passing our small corridor note that they have this raw chicken and pork meat left hanging for several days now and I assumed they are going to feast tomorrow. They have a big refrigerator outside to froze the meat imagine that.
Looking from northeast window, most of the building lights were turned off. Perhaps the owners went to province just like most of the Chinese do to reunite with their families at the start of Spring Festival.
In some unfortunate events meanwhile please note that my sink plumbing sucks. For some strange reason, water backflowed from the pipes and flooded my sink and it never stop. Without hesitation I removed the traps from main drain pipe and plug it with rag utilizing rubber gloves to tighten the grip. I really prayed that will hold for long because the amount of pressure coming was strong and I am to give up cleaning the mess. For the record the water is too damn cold. Yes, I’ll call the owner tomorrow to fix this plumbing malady.
Later, I will be going to my friend and officemate house 15 minutes walk from my place. They will have some New Year eve party there and some Pinoy friends would also come there. I am excited to munch for arrozcaldo and my lazy self affirmatively bringing nothing but my hungry mouth. Hope the bakery along Huaihai is still open.
As I end this prose, lights and sound filled the night sky of Shanghai in the eve of the year of the rat or mouse or whatever.
A toast for a better year to China and unselflessly to myself!!!
Xin nian kuai le!
